The Hanover Tache Junior Hockey league season has concluded and the playoffs are well on their way.
The regular season saw the Grunthal Red Wings return to the league after laying dormant for a while. This brought the league to seven teams for the 2018/19 season.
The pace of the league was set this year by a dominant Red River Mudbugs team, led by Skylar Klassen and Tristan Dueck, who each eclipsed the fifty point mark on the year. The Mudbugs finished in first place with a record of 21-2-0-1.
The Lorette JR Comets followed up in second place 17-6-0-1 thanks in large to the leagues best goalkeeper Noah Fournier who finished with a 10-2-0-1 record and a 2.43 record.
Out in Springfield MB, the Xtreme as always had a steady year as they remained the even keeled franchise of the league pacing themselves to a third place finish of 15-8-0-1.
Last years punching bag, the Steinbach Huskies ,played strong ending in fourth, while St. Adolphe 11-11-1-1, Mitchell 7-16-1-0, and the last place Grunthal Red Wings with a record of 1-22-1-0 rounded off the standings.
The seasonal awards dished out for 2018/19 were as follows:
Coach of the Year: Mike Funk, Red River Mudbugs
Rookie of the Year: Spencer Kaminsky, St. Adolphe Hawks
Top Forward: Miguel Chartier, Steinbach Huskies
Top Defenceman: Alex Joyal, St Adolphe Hawks
Top Goalie: Noah Fournier, Lorette JR Comets
Most Gentlemanly: Kade Kliever, Grunthal Red Wings
League MVP: Skylar Klassen, Red River Mudbugs
So far the quarter finals have all been completed.
Steinbach went the distance against St.Adolphe winning the series in game five with a 5-3 victory.
Springfield and Mitchell went toe to toe, it looked like Mitchell had the series in the bag up two games to none but Springfield battled back and took games three, four and five, winning the series ending game 11-2.
The Lorette JR Comets took down the Grunthal Red Wings in a series sweep which saw the Comets put up twelve goals in game two of the series.
Currently the Semi Finals look like this, the Springfield Xtreme are leading their series against the Lorette Jr Comets, 3 games to 2.
In the other Semi Final, the Red River Mudbugs defeated the Steinbach Huskies 4-3 in game five to take the series 4-1.
The Red River Mudbugs are hoping to win their second straight HTJHL title having swept the St Adolphe Hawks in last years final.
