Among some of the other news that happened last week while we were dealing with real life things, was the news that the newly formed Interstate Hockey League had announced the four teams that will take to the ice for the first season.
Originally, the league had been eyeing six to eight teams for the first season, but settled on four, because there were, “Just not enough consistent players for this season. Want to make sure we are stable for year one. So we can grow in the future.”
Which makes sense, because how often have we seen new, or even established leagues, jump the gun with way too many teams at the start, only to see half of them fold after the first season? Better to have four strong teams than 6 or 8 with half of them struggling to get by.
The four teams that will take to the ice this fall are the Hadley Nepessings, the Rochester Vipers, the Macomb Hurons, and Canton Wolfpack. Here’s a look at each of their logos:
These four teams will each play a 20-game schedule during the regular season, and will have a Game of the Week broadcast on a local radio network.
In addition to the four confirmed teams, the IHL also confirmed the jerseys that each team will wear, and here is a look at each of those.
The IHL will start its inaugural season on October 5 when Hadley travels to take on Fraser, and then the next night Macomb will take on Canton.
The league is still accepting players for the first season, those interested can register here.
